Who: U.S. students in grades 6–12 (public, private, or charter schools; teams of at least 4 students with a teacher lead).
What: NASA TechRise Student Challenge – design and propose a science or technology experiment to fly on either a suborbital spaceship (3 minutes microgravity) or a high-altitude balloon (4–8 hours, 70,000–95,000 ft).
When: Entries due November 3, 2025, 11:59 PM PT. Winners announced January 20, 2026. Experiments launch Summer 2026.
Where: Experiments will fly on NASA-sponsored suborbital or high-altitude balloon flights. Challenge managed by NASA’s Flight Opportunities program.
Why: To give students hands-on experience in engineering, computing, and electronics while contributing to NASA’s mission. Winning teams (60 total) receive $1,500, a starter kit with a flight box, technical support, and a spot on a real NASA-sponsored flight.
