Learn about the history of Kabuki and Kumadori, the role it played in 17th-century Japan, and practice Kumadori-style face painting on yourself.
Step into the dazzling world of Japanese Kabuki theater in the second in our three-part series on historical art from around the world. Participants will explore the history and spectacle of Kabuki, known for its dramatic storytelling, costumes, and movement. We’ll dive into the art of Kumadori, the bold and symbolic makeup used to bring Kabuki characters to life. Then, try your hand at Kumadori-style face painting on yourself or a partner to embody the spirit of these unforgettable performances”
