“Please join us in remembering our fallen military and public service heroes at our annual Memorial Day Ceremony. Attend in person at the Gwinnett Fallen Heroes Memorial in Lawrenceville or right here on Facebook Live at 1:00pm.

Two fallen heroes will be inducted into to the Fallen Heroes Memorial during the ceremony:

U.S. Army National Guard Spc. Travis Jordan Pameni, who died July 31, 2024, in a noncombat related incident in Baghdad, Iraq. Pameni was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 121st Infantry Regiment, based in Lawrenceville.

U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Ryan Austin O’Hara, who died in a helicopter crash during a training mission near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport on January 29, 2025. O’Hara grew up in Lilburn and graduated from the 2014 class of Parkview High School’s Marine Corps JROTC program.

U.S. Army Brigadier General Theodore Scott, commanding general of the Marietta-based 78th Troop Command of the Georgia Army National Guard will provide the event’s keynote remarks. Serving in this role since July 2023, Brig. Gen. Scott began his military career in August 1997 as a Tactical Intelligence Officer and has risen through the ranks as a platoon leader, deputy commander, and making history as the 78th’s first African American commanding general.

Other officials scheduled to speak include District 1 Commissioner Kirkland Carden and District 3 Commissioner Jasper Watkins III. A combined public safety honor guard will also participate in the ceremony.

In the event of inclement weather, the Memorial Day ceremony will move indoors to the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center auditorium.”
