National Donut Day is Friday, June 6, 2025. The holiday began in 1938 to honor the “Donut Lassies” who were volunteers from the Salvation Army who served donuts and other baked goods to soldiers on the front lines during World War I. They gained the nickname “Donut Lassies” for their work providing these treats, which were seen as a boost to morale. The Salvation Army’s work during the war also led to the establishment of National Donut Day in 1938 to honor the Donut Lassies and raise money for their efforts.
