By gaining some independence, you can boost your confidence and build your resilience, giving you the knowledge that you can better handle life’s ups and downs.”

(Wednesday, June 11): Learning Labs | Sewing with a Pattern

“Learn how to read and prepare a pattern for sewing.

Do you already know how to use a sewing machine, but you are not sure how to follow a pattern? Join us to learn how to read a pattern package, and follow the pattern’s directions. Learn techniques for saving the pattern for future use, and how to prep the pieces for sewing.

Space is limited. This program does not include sewing machine instruction.

“Join us for our monthly Teen Advisory Council (TAC) meeting where you can help with library programs and earn volunteer credit!

TAC is a library volunteer club that meets once a month for teens! TAC members assist with creating and planning library teen programs. Volunteers earn 2 hours of volunteer credit for every 1-hour meeting.

(Tuesday, August 12): Gwinnett County Police – Badges & Youth Education Program

“Join our Badges and Youth Education Program!
Once a month, high schoolers are invited to connect with us at precincts across Gwinnett for interactive sessions on a variety of topics!
Each class covers a new subject, giving students a chance to learn, engage, and explore topics they’re most interested in.”

Ages: Grades 9-12

August 12: Personal safety and Explorer program

September 16: Criminal Procedure, when do you have to provide ID and what is a Terry stop?

October 14: Alternate Communications Center and Q&A with the Chief

VOLUNTEER

Volunteer with iCan Bike Gwinnett

(June 2–6): Teens! Volunteers are needed to help with short, fun sessions, and it’s a perfect fit for teens looking to earn hours for school, clubs, scholarships, or college applications. Organizers will gladly sign any required paperwork.

Here’s what to know:

🚲 Sessions are just 75 minutes, so it’s a quick and easy way to help out.

🚲 Teens are encouraged to come every day, but they can volunteer for as many or as few sessions as they’re available.

🚲 Volunteers should be 15 or older, but younger kids can join in too if a parent comes with them.

It’s a simple, flexible opportunity for families who want to support their community, especially great for teens ready to get involved.

Looking to make a difference? The Gwinnett Library is always looking for volunteers to help with literacy, learning, and more!

“Our volunteers are special! They are parents, college students, teens, retired professionals, church groups and scouts. They are our neighbors and our friends. Library volunteers give their community the priceless gift of time. Below are just some of the ways you can help out as a library volunteer. The minimum age to apply is 13. Starting Tuesday, May 27, the Summer Meals Program returns Monday to Friday from 11:00am to 1:00pm. Families with kids ages 18 and younger and adults with disabilities can pick up their shelf-stable meals at 20 locations across the county while supplies last.

We are looking for volunteers (ages 15 years and older) to assist staff at 20 program locations from 10:00am to 2:00pm, Monday through Friday, starting May 28th. Volunteers will be helping organize and distributing Grab & Go Breakfast and Lunch Packs.
