We’ll be pulling out all the stops on August 12th for Smokey’s big birthday celebration at Brasstown Bald Recreation Area! Come on out for games, crafts, and special giveaways all day, as well as a visit from Smokey himself from 10:00 – 2:00pm.

why drive so far?: Brasstown Bald is located within the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests, the Brasstown Bald Visitor Information Center is the highest point in Georgia, rising 4,784 feet above sea level and just a short drive from Blairsville, Hiawassee, and Helen. On the Bald you’ll find:
picnic areas with great views;
a general store with locally made products;
three trailheads just off of our parking lot;
a mountaintop natural science & history museum, and
observation deck that offers a spectacular 360° view of the surrounding area, including four states (GA, TN, NC, & SC) and if you’re lucky, the skyline of Atlanta! See their live WebCam video stream.

When: Saturday, August 12, 2023 (10am-2pm)
Where: Brasstown Bald, 2941 Hwy 180 Spur, Hiwassee, GA – On a clear day it is possible to see the tallest buildings of Atlanta, some 85 miles away from the summit.
(NOTE: Brasstown Bald is located 75 miles North of the Mall of Georgia – 1.5-2 hour drive)
Cost: Event is Free with Entrance Fee
Visitor Center and Day Use Area Fee: $8/person (16+) Includes Shuttle, Children 15 and under get in free
