Animal adoption fees return

Five days of furry fun: Weekday adoption specials

  • Move-in Monday: 50% off adoption fees.
  • Two-for-Tuesday: Adopt a bonded pair or two new friends for the cost of one. Puppies and kittens ages 11 months and younger are excluded.
  • Whisker Wednesday: Adult cat adoptions are free.
  • Cure-their-Heart Thursday: Heartworm-positive dogs are free to adopt with heartworm treatment provided.
  • Fetch-me Friday: Every adopted animal goes home with a special pet toy.

All adoptions include spay or neuter, up-to-date vaccinations, and a microchip. You’ll also receive a leash or carrier and a small starter bag of food to help your new companion settle in smoothly — no matter which day you adopt. Kindness Opportunity:  Gwinnett’s Dog Day Out program

Make a difference in the lives of animals

Gwinnett’s Dog Day Out program provides tail-wagging fun for shelter dogs and animal lovers. Local organizations, businesses, and service clubs can help socialize adoptable dogs by taking them on an outdoor adventure at Rhodes Jordan Park in Lawrenceville, improving their chances of finding a forever home. To bring some sunshine into a shelter dog’s day, email AWEVolunteers@GwinnettCounty.com.

The Bill Atkinson Animal Welfare Center is also seeking volunteer foster homes to provide temporary care for shelter animals in need. If you’re unable to foster, consider volunteering onsite to help exercise and socialize adoptable animals and support the center’s mission. Learn more at VolunteerGwinnett.net.

Pet Emergency Kit (source:Gwinnett Animal Shelter Post)

“Be prepared to keep your pets safe in any situation. Create two emergency kits: one for sheltering in place and a lightweight version for evacuations. Use sturdy, portable containers, and check contents regularly to keep food and medicine fresh.

Here’s what to include in your pet emergency kit:
Food and water: several days’ supply, along with a water bowl and a manual can opener if needed
Medicine and first aid: extra supply of routine medication in a waterproof container.
Identification and transport: collar with an ID tag, harness or leash, and a crate, carrier, or travel bag for each pet
Sanitation and grooming items: pet shampoo, litter and litter box, newspapers, paper towels, plastic trash bags, and disinfectant
Important documents: medical records, registration papers, veterinarian contact information, a photo of you with your pet, and details about medical or behavioral needs
Familiar items: favorite toys, treats, or bedding to help your pet stay calm in stressful situations.

Prepare now to protect your furry family members during emergencies.”
